James McCrudden

Hi, I’m James McCrudden, one of the Directors of Skills Gap Training. Let me introduce myself.

I’ve been in the construction industry for around 40 years, starting out as a labourer and working with lots of different trades. I learned on the job, being taught by experienced tradesmen back in the late 80s and early 90s. My gaffer put me to work with steel fixers, formwork joiners and concreters. These trades are highly skilled, helping to build Britain’s superstructures and infrastructures — delivering projects for the Ministry of Transport, National Grid, MOD, NHS, Education, Renewable Energies and Housing, to name but a few.

All of these projects begin with building solid foundations, and that’s what Steel Fixing, Formwork Joinery and Concreting are all about. The work we do is rarely seen — most of it is buried, covered over, hidden in plain sight.

Now I want to pass on the lifelong skills I’ve gained working on infrastructures across Great Britain and Europe. I’m committed to training the next generation of Building and Civil Engineering Construction workers.

That’s why Skills Gap Training has been formed: to upskill the existing workforce and to introduce people who may not yet know about this industry but are willing to learn. Give it a try — you’ll be surprised how rewarding it is.
